1. Anthem
Bioware’s newest project is leaving the space opera and fantasy settings up its past to give players something bigger and and arguably all the more exciting in “Anthem.” Releasing this February, “Anthem’s” choices of Javelins, awesome suits of power armor with unique abilities, will allow players to fly around a gorgeous world, feeling like “Iron Man.” This shared world adventure should be rich in lore and exploration, as well as fun combat to engage in with friends.
2. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
Earlier this year, “Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon” launched to critical acclaim for re-creating the likes of the 8-bit “Castlevania” games. The series’ 16-bit titles however are the inspiration for the upcoming “Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.” This game has had longer development and is clearly getting a lot of thought and heart put into it to create this generation’s “Symphony of the Night.”
3. Crackdown 3
Long-delayed and shown at events, “Crackdown 3” seems like it may never release; however, it is scheduled for February of 2019. The game’s developers seem to have confidence in this static release date, assuring players they’ll finally get their hands on this explosive action game. “Crackdown 3” certainly needs to be a spectacle to impress gamers in today’s climate of top-notch open world action games but it does look like an absolute blast to play nevertheless.
4. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled
Announced at the 2018 Game Awards, “Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled” looks to be another stunning remake of a classic. Last year’s “Crash Bandicoot The N. Sane Trilogy” brought the original “Crash” games back with great visual improvements. This remake of the iconic kart-racer looks to do the same and should be a lot of fun for newcomers and those nostalgic alike this June.
5. Days Gone
Sony has a lot of surefire hits under their first party belt; Sony Bend’s “Days Gone” may or may not be one. It is hard to say the game has garnered the hype that many others have but it does look pretty solid regardless. With a motorcycle for traversal and combat, an open world set in the Pacific Northwest and hundreds of zombies for your to kill, “Days Gone” may turn out to be familiar but fresh in the world of games of this nature.

And this sequel looks to be a gorgeous return to form. Stylish combat and boss fights alike make this one of 2019’s most exciting titles.

“Far Cry 5” may have shipped less than a year ago but it’s effectively getting a sequel in 2019. “Far Cry New Dawn” is partially its own spinoff of the franchise but it also follows the ending of “Far Cry 5” almost 20 years later. This post-apocalyptic take on “Far Cry” looks stunning and fresh but comfortably familiar, doing what the series is known best for in its gunplay and craziness.

8. Gears 5
The “Gears of War” franchise looks to be known now as simply “Gears” in that the series is expanding in coming years. Most exciting of course in the core sequel in “Gears 5.” The game’s cinematic reveal and gameplay demo at E3 2018 looked beautiful, as well as exhilarating. The combat of the “Gears” series is back with big guns and violent finishers. And the story continues the adventure of our new faces in Delmont, JD and of course, Kait.
9. Kingdom Hearts 3
What might be the longest wait in gaming history now that we have gotten “The Last Guardian” and “Final Fantasy XV,” Disney and Square Enix’s colossal returns in January in the form “Kingdom Hearts 3.” The hype riding this game alone makes it the biggest of 2019’s confirmed games. “Kingdom Hearts 3” has amazing visuals with plenty of familiar and brand new, exciting Disney-based worlds to explore. Combat improvements and the continuation of one of the most profound and convoluted stories entertainment alike will make this game one for the books.
10. Luigi’s Mansion 3
If “Luigi’s Mansion” getting a remake on the 3DS instead of the Switch this fall was a disappointment to the forward-thinking Nintendo games, “Luigi’s Mansion 3” may have been the most exciting announcement yet. The title was teased more than anything but its mere existence in confirmation of development is big enough. “Luigi’s Mansion 3” is confirmed to release in 2019 as of now and it will no doubt be another charming, funny and fresh take on the franchise and character we all know and love.
11. Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order
“Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order” was easily one of the 2018 Game Awards’ biggest surprises. Nobody had expected a sequel to the isometric action RPG from last generation and before it. Even more exciting though it's the development from Team Ninja, a studio known for great action. “Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order” is surprisingly coming exclusively to the Switch and may be the most interesting of games on this list.
12. Metro Exodus
“Metro Exodus” boats a gorgeous bleak world setting with some exciting gunplay and systems within its combat. The title looks to be a fresh sequel to some of this past generation's most under-looked first person shooters. When it launches in February, “Metro Exodus” will go up against deeper marketed and profitable titles thanks to namesake alone but it's interesting setting and tone make this shooter one you don’t want to sleep on.
13. Mortal Kombat 11
Ed Boon’s bait and switch of coming on stage at this year’s Game Awards to “announce the bets sports/racing game” was awesome thanks to the way the “Mortal Kombat 11” trailer we all hoped for appeared in front of us. We don’t know much else and haven’t seen the gameplay but it is a new “Mortal Kombat” game and that is enough to get hyped for. The best part is, Netherrealm will release the game in April, just five months post-reveal.
14. (Untitled) Pokemon
If this year’s “Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!” and “Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee!” weren’t enough for your Pocket Monster fix, look no further than 2019. Scheduled for a release next year, Game Freak has confirmed they have a brand new, core “Pokemon” RPG on the way to the Switch. At the time of writing, not even a title or tease has been provided; however, rumors of generation 8 and the ever-growing quality of life-improvements the series has undergone make this one really exciting nevertheless.
15. Rage 2
“Rage” is a title of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 generation that few played and fewer are familiar with. In 2019 however, iD Software and Avalanche Studios look to change the franchise name for the better with what looks to be one of the coolest shooters on the horizon. “Rage 2” is coming this spring with a vibrant color pallet, action-packed driving and fast-paced gunplay and a wild open world; it looks like it may make the “Rage” name mean much more than we imagined.
16. Resident Evil 2
Despite some odd decisions in the E3 event of Sony’s this year, there were at least some great games, arguably most notable of them all was Capcom’s remake of “Resident Evil 2.” The 1998 horror classic is finally get remade in the same vein as its predecessor did a few years back. “Resident Evil 2” looks absolutely gorgeous and changes things up for the better, borrowing inspiration from the critically acclaimed “Resident Evil 4” and “Resident Evil 7,” making it so much more than a simple remake.
17. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
From Software is taking a break from the gothic horror of its “Dark Souls” games (and Bloodborne) to go to something completely different and all the more exciting. 2019 will see their release of “Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice,” an action-packed title with a Japanese mythological style and tone to it. The slick combat and rewarding challenge of From Software’s lineup will no doubt make this fresh game one you won’t want to miss out on this March.
18. Tom Clancy’s The Division 2
Leaving New York City, Ubisoft’s sequel to “Tom Clancy’s The Division” will be putting in players in the iconic Washington D.C. “Tom Clancy’s The Division 2” looks more ambitious and interesting than ever before. The new setting, a continuous and progressively darker story shroud in realism with fun, cooperative-based gunplay and exploration make this sequel one you’ll want to gather your friends for right away.
19. Yoshi’s Crafted World
Nintendo will return to its delightful nature of gameplay and tone of “Yoshi’s Wooly World” with next year’s “Yoshi’s Crafted World.” The title looks wholesome and adorable, as well as really fun. “Yoshi’s Crafted World” has a unique gameplay aspect of shifting the area around you. It will likely be a relaxing, enjoyable platformer, perfect for the Switch in 2019.
As of now, those are just a handful of the many games we should expect to get our hands on in the new year. I have found these 19, perfect for the year 2019, to be the most interesting, exciting and worthwhile releases on the horizon.
