5. Crash Team Racing
Recently rumored to be coming to current generation platforms in the same vein as the original trilogy is “Crash Team Racing” or “CTR.” The kart-racer was beloved on the original PlayStation, seen as a fair competitor to the likes of “Mario Kart 64.” If the rumors are true, fans will absolutely go crazy for “CTR” Remastered.
Personally, I experienced the “Crash Bandicoot” games for the first time ever through “Crash Bandicoot the N. Sane Trilogy.” I found the platformers to be absolutely delightful and challenging but very fun to play. Vicarious Visions did a wonderful job with the collection. If they were to tackle “Crash Team Racing” or let someone like Bluepoint do the honors, I believe the remastered version of the fan-favorite racing game would be perfect today and one I would totally buy into.
4. Metroid Prime Trilogy
With “Metroid Prime 4” having no more than a stylish logo to its name, at least in the public eye, it is time for more already. However, I don’t think Nintendo is getting out on store shelves for some time. I am banking on E3 2019 for the game to be highlighted deeply. Now, I want the trilogy before it.
“Metroid Prime Trilogy” on the Switch is something everyone wants, myself included. I think it is almost necessary, given the reception of the three games and the fact that they are held back by older hardware or just too rare to find in a complete trilogy on the Wii. I need to see what made all three “Metroid Prime” games so beloved and respected among shooter and Nintendo fans alike and a Switch version of the trilogy would be an awesome reveal at this year’s Game Awards.
3. Mortal Kombat XI
Fans have been waiting long enough for the inevitable reveal of “Mortal Kombat XI.” The game, if NetherRealm Studios’ track record is anything to go by, should be out next year. They dropped “Mortal Kombat” in 2011, “Injustice: Gods Among Us” in 2013. Two years later, “Mortal Kombat X” and then “Injustice 2” two years after. The two-year cycle makes gamers more than ready for a new title in the flagship, brutally violent series of fighting games next year.
“Mortal Kombat XI” is likely on the way and would be revealed sooner than later, especially if it’s coming in 2019. The Game Awards is the perfect event to let NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros show of an exciting, gory tease for the next “Mortal Kombat” game.
2. WB Montreal’s New Batman
Rocksteady may have concluded their critically acclaimed “Batman: Arkham” series in 2015 with “Batman: Arkham Knight;” however, the caped crusader has no reason to say goodbye to games. Rumors have recently arose that WB Games Montreal is at work on a new Batman game. The developer is responsible for the prequel from 2013, “Batman: Arkham Origins,” an arguably underrated game altogether and proof they know the character.
I don’t know if I want Rocksteady to continue to work on Batman, as they are due for something new. And no, a Superman game rumor was already debunked. I do however have no issues with more Batman from WB Montreal. I think they would make a great game that could do something fresh for the “Arkham” series or leave it alone entirely. Rumor has it that their game will be shown tomorrow and regard the Court of Owls, a villainous group I have great interest in. That gets me more than a little excited.
1. Square Enix’s Avengers Game
With the success of “Marvel’s Spider-Man” this year and everything Marvel Studios is doing on the big screen, a triple A Avengers game sounds nothing short of amazing. We know that there is one under Square Enix’s belt, as well as development from Crystal Dynamics. The tease showing a mere Vibranium shield and Mjolnir with confirmation of the game in development, gamers were stoked; however, that was a while ago.
Anthony and Joe Russo, directors of little-known films such as “Captain America: Civil War” and “Avengers: Infinity War” have been confirmed to be making on-stage appearances at the Game Awards. This did, of course, leave many and still does have us speculating on why they would be there and the assumption they will introduce us to a proper look at the Avengers game is in the air. I personally am a huge Marvel Cinematic Universe fan, as I am of Square Enix’s action games so I am more than a little excited for whatever this game may be. And I genuinely want nothing more out of the Game Awards than exactly that.
Those are the five games I would like to see have proper reveals at this year’s Game Awards. I would love to feel the energy in the room of the show as I go crazy with hype watching trailers for remasters of some of gaming’s finest and new outings for the greatest superheroes of our time. Be sure to let me know in the comments what game announcements or trailers you are hoping to see at tomorrow’s Game Awards.
