There have been many leaks suggesting some beloved characters are or are not in fighting chance (no pun intended) of making it into the roster. Wishful thinking is something I always do when it comes to such a topic though. So, let’s take what we have heard and put it aside, as only facts from the developers are what guarantees anything for sure. I’d like to do a countdown of 10 characters I most want to see appear in “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” as the fifth DLC fighter.
10. Steve
Steve from “Minecraft” always seemed unappealing to me for a “Smash” fighter. I however had a change of heart once a friend of mine suggested the many ways he could fight. And my random love for Minecraft over the summer made me realize that Steve has a versatile moveset. He can use plenty of tools as weapons and could prove to go toe-to-toe with other fighters I am sure. And Nintendo and Microsoft’s relationship would suggest a chance for Steve to make it in.
9. Spyro the Dragon
Spyro is just someone who belongs in the roster of “Super Smash Bros.” He is an icon in gaming and the franchise celebrates iconics in the industry, particularly with “Ultimate.” Spyro also made his way on to Nintendo platforms with “Skylanders” and “Spyro: Reignited Trilogy” recently. I can see the dragon's flight and use of fire to be of great benefit. Spyro would fit quite nicely in the game.
8. Lara Croft
Lara Croft may seem a bit out there for a DLC fighter for “Super Smash Bros.” but she may as well be as foreign to the Switch as Banjo or more importantly, Joker. I think Lara is a historically relevant character when you look at gaming. The iconic nature of the roster should implement her well. Lara is obviously a great fighter. She uses many guns and acrobatics to best her enemies. Lara Croft would be a welcomed addition to the title.
7. Master Chief
Master Chief is basically the most famous Xbox character. Nintendo and Microsoft have a positive relationship and rumors have been floating around for some time saying we can play Xbox games on the Switch. The chief is about to be prominent again with the next title, “Halo: Infinite” dropping next fall. I think Master Chief is an awesome character and fresh enough to the formula of “Smash” to make him all the more appealing.
6. Ryu Hyubusa
Ironically, I never thought about Ryu Hyubusa for the game until I saw a leaker say he isn’t in. I didn’t let that stop my wishes. Ryu is awesome; I like him even more than that other Ryu already in “Super Smash Bros.” This “Ninja Gaiden” character mastered the art of fighting with violence and style. He would be extremely exciting to use in “Smash” and I genuinely can picture it woking, more than most on the list even.
5. Cuphead
Sure, Cuphead has one game to his name and he is a new indie character but that doesn't stop my desire to play him in “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.” “Cuphead” was one of my favorite games from 2017. And now that it is on the Switch, a platform I always saw a near future for the game, I think many have enjoyed it. Cuphead is a lovable and delightful character with some rapid firing techniques. He’d certainly be so much fun and Mugman would be a great echo fighter or at least a color alternative. I also believe Cuphead could bring with him a great stage with a boss fight going on.
After the “Crash Bandicoot” games made their way to the Switch, many gamers, myself included, quickly grew hellbent on the idea of the mascot coming to “Super Smash Bros.” Crash Bandicoot is a character I would love to see in the game for his mascot and iconic status alone. Crash would definitely be a lot of fun to use too. He can spin and jump around, throw apples and ooze charm like he does in his own games. I can’t help but think we all want Crash to be in “Super Smash Bros.” so much.
3. Doomguy

3. Doomguy
“Doom” was one of the biggest surprises in terms of third party Switch games. I actually played the shooter on my Switch before trying out at a higher resolution elsewhere. And now “Doom: Eternal” is on the way to all platforms, Nintendo's included of course. I think that the Doomguy or Doom Marine would be an insanely cool pick for DLC 5. “Super Smash Bros” introducing Doomguy would introduce some crazy guns, including the BFG as a final smash I’d imagine. Doom’s incorporation into the fighter would be unexpected, original, intense and downright awesome.
2. Scorpion/Sub-Zero
Not unlike “Doom,” Netherrealm’s latest fighter should never been on a Nintendo platform. “Mortal Kombat 11” came out in a new age where the Switch has games like it. And now Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Johnny Cage and everyone else are officially on the platform. I want “Mortal Kombat” representation so much in “Smash.” And I think Scorpion is an obvious choice. He is arguably the most iconic name in the franchise. Scorpion is on the box art and posters often. He is also super fun to play and very cool. With the spear, fire, teleportation and swords, Scorpion is a justifiable fit to fight with in “Ultimate.” And I do think an echo fighter is only necessary with Sub-Zero.
1. Dante

1. Dante
“Devil May Cry’s” star, Dante, is one of the coolest characters in gaming. He can fight like nobody’s business, has yielded several powerful guns, swords and other weapons and is just genuinely awesome. I think Dante would be an excellent fit for “Super Smash Bros.” Dante’s skills and artillery would make him my type of fighter, that's for sure. I can see Dante going head to head with the “Fire Emblem” cast, Cloud and Hero. Look no further than Dante’s action in the recent “Devil May Cry 5” to see how great he would be for “Smash.” And of course, I would say Nero would be a fair choice instead, possibly even an echo fighter for Dante but Dante’s more iconic so he would be the best choice for my money.
And those are 10 characters I would love to play as in “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.” The game’s final DLC fighter is bound to be announced as soon as this Thursday at the Game Awards. I think that at least a couple of the characters on my list have a chance but time will tell for sure. Be sure to share with me in the comment section what characters you want to appear as DLC in “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” and share this with friends who are fans of “Smash” as well!
