“The Heist” didn’t do much for strong boss fights and that disappointed me after the relatively solid fights in the main game. “Turf Wars” did include one in the form of Hammerhead as the final boss fight, where he used a new suit of armor from Sable technology. I found that it was pretty similar to the base game’s boss fights, but a fun one nonetheless. But it isn’t perfect.
In retrospect, “Marvel’s Spider-Man” did use a lot of similar tactics for each boss fight, Hammerhead included. I want to see the third DLC give us something a little more fresh. I also would be lying if I said another Hammerhead fight in “Silver Linings” is as uninspired to me as it is inevitable. I’m sure we’ll get a rematch but if it plays differently and provides some unique challenges, then it wouldn’t be so bad.
I also would like to see “Silver Linings” provide a new boss fight or two. I can’t throw out a name of someone random, nor can I even predict where the story will go, character wise; however, I do know that the content would benefit from more than one boss fight, and an exciting, different one at that.
4. Side Mission Variety
“The Heist” provided the player with an art collection and a side mission regarding them and the original Black Cat. In addition, there were several new (and familiar) crimes, enemy bases and Screwball missions. “Turf Wars” did the same but in a smaller amount. With that, I ultimately found the lack of variety to be disappointing and I hope this changes in “Silver Linings.”
I’m hoping Insomniac Games will cut back on the monotonous crimes in each district for starters. I believe they’d benefit from some other fun side activities and a side mission or two, similar to that of the Black Cat painting theft storyline of “The Heist.” I think the DLC really needs something fresh to do in between the story missions and a little side story within would be really welcomed. Even if it introduces a minor character like Screwball, although not at all like Screwball, that would be good too, as long as we can get some fresh variety.
3. End Screwball on a High Note
I admittedly found Screwball to be very annoying, both in gameplay requirements and absolutely in her character. I’m not expecting “Silver Linings” to be rid of her challenges, as it is basically inevitable that we will get them. I do however wish to see one of two things with these Screwball challenges this time around.
I’m hoping Screwball’s final challenges don’t come with absurd difficulty spikes like some of the stealth ones did. They’d be better with a little variety within each challenge and certainly needs to be structured to be fun and not repetitive or frustrating if they are going to challenge the player.
“Silver Linings” would also benefit from a strong end to the character of Screwball. This B-grade villain will likely be taken out in a boss fight but I really hope to see Insomniac Games give a fun and unique fight against her and do something, anything, narrative-wise to make to make it worthwhile.
2. Black Cat Closure
The plot twist at the end of “The Heist” saw Felicia Hardy, Black Cat, enter an explosion from Hammerhead. It was not entirely known whether or not she truly died, despite the clear reason to believe she did. The “to be continued” at the end and the vague mention in the beginning of “Turf Wars” about her alleged death’s mystery make it hard to be sure what truly happened,
I believe that “The City That Never Sleeps” cannot close its three-part story without including some plot about Black Cat. I’m hoping that “Silver Linings” shows whether or not she did die after all. Personally, I’d like to see that she made it out and went into hiding and then is forced out somehow by Spider-Man, perhaps to take down the gangs once and for all with her help. From there, Peter could tell Felicia about the phone calls with her father and how he knew of the original Black Cat. Things like this would be interesting and fitting in that they’d provide closure to the original story and character the DLC was all about.

1. Miles Morales is Spider-Man
If there’s one thing more teased in the DLC of “Spider-Man,” above all else, it is Miles Morales as Spider-Man-to-be. With the ending of the main game showing Miles’ new abilities he’d obtained from a spider bite (sounds familiar?) his come up to be another web swinger is upon us.
Due to how he shared phone calls with Peter about testing his skills and wanting to train, Miles is very clearly on his way to being a playable web swinger. When will this happen? It’s hard to imagine they’d give the player that power before the inevitable sequel. Of course, this doesn’t stop me, and presumably hundreds of other fans, from desiring it before the DLC comes to an end.

“Silver Linings” will certainly offer another phone call between Peter and Miles between missions and it will no doubt be of Miles using his abilities. I just hope that after that phone call, we get to go to Miles and actually train him. I’d absolutely love to see this training between the two go down. And then from there, we’d of course have to get our shot at being Miles. Even if it was just for a quick mission with limited abilities, as long as we get to swing around and fight as him and maybe, just maybe, wear his iconic suit (yes, the one from the upcoming “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”) I’d be beyond satisfied.
Those are my five hopes for “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Silver Linings.” Are you tired of Screwball? Are you hoping to play as Miles Morales with his new abilities? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
